
Samsung is holding the Tizen Developer Summit for two goals: To show the latest features and improvements of Tizen, and to prove that Tizen is not dead! They even announced the first smart device running Tizen which is a smart camera and it is going to be sold in the Korea.
Samsung also announced the first mobile phones with Tizen platform are coming in the first quarter of 2014, and they will be updated from Tizen 2.2.1 to Tizen 3.0 some time later in the 3rd quarter of 2014. One of the new features of Tizen 2.2.1 is the option to install apps in SD cards
In the following we first review the main specifications of Tizen OS version 3.0 and then cover the new companies to work with Samsung in the Tizen project.
Tizen 3.0 Features and Improvements:
In the Summit's keynote, Samsung showed some of the major features of next version of Tizen, Tizen 3.0, and it just made us hopeful to see a powerful OS next year.
Here are some of the major features of Tizen 3.0:
- Updated Core OS and Toolchain
- Support for Multi-user with protection
- 64bit architecture support: IA and ARM support, Performance improvements, and Larger memory address space
- 3D UI Framework: Dynamic Animation Library
- WayLand based compositor
- Crosswalk: Crosswalk an HTML 5 application runtime called Crosswalk that’s based on Chromium / Blink
As mentioned earlier, the devices running Tizen 2.2.1 will be updated to Tizen 3.0 in Q3, 2014.
Here Maps Will Support Tizen
According to the official Here Twitter account (@here), they are going to power the Tizen project with maps and map-related functionalities. It means Tizen devices are expected to have Here Maps as their navigation servi ce and developers can use this service for purpose of creating location based apps.

Car Companies and Tizen
Since there is a camera running Tizen, and a Tizen TV has already been confirmed, we shouldn't get surprised to see Tizen get used for developing In-Vehicle-Infotainment system. Toyota, Jaguar and Landrover are the 3 first car companies which have confirmed the partnership with Samsung and Intel for using Tizen in their IVI system.
