It was Samsung for the first time that released the first Phablet ever; Samsung Galaxy Note. Phablets actually refers to a class of smartphones designed to combine the functionalities of smartphone and tablet. Samsung released the second generation of Note, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, after a year in 2012, hoping to continue its conquest on Phablet marketing.

Design

With a shiny and smooth body and a silver chassis, the design is almost a reminder of Galaxy S3 and its father Note design. And of course, the famous stylus, it’s placed on the back side of the gadget. The phone has a size of 9.4 x 80.5 x 151.1 and a reasonable weight of 183 g.

Hardware

What is more significant about Note 2 is its large display size. It is a 5.5” Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 267. The Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protects this magnificent high quality display. The processor chosen for this phablet is a Quad Core Exynos 4412 with 1.6 GH of frequency. The GPU is like always the famous Mali-400MP. A RAM of 2 GB and a memory of 16, 32 or 64 support this beautiful smartphone. But you can always extend it, by buying additional SD memories, up to 64 GB. Using its 8 MP camera with LED, capturing full HD videos with 30fps is easily possible.

Software

Galaxy Note 2 was the first Samsung device coming with Android 4.1.1. TouchWiz is like always there as the graphical user interface. Most of Note 2 software specifications are like Galaxy S3, except with a few additions:

Intelligent Assistant: S Voice and Google Now are the two default intelligent voice assistants installed on the phone.

Smart Stay: Using the front camera, this feature captures the user’s face movements and prevents the display from turning off if the use r is stared at the display.

Popup Video: This feature enables watching videos over any opened window.

S Beam: A feature used for sharing data using NFC.

Blocking Mode: You can set different notifications for different contacts or to set calling rules for a specific list of contacts for a period of time.

Smart Rotation: Using the front camera, this feature smartly rotates the screen based on user’s current mood.

Page Buddy: Predicts what you are to do next.

The S Pen Stylus: The new stylus is thicker and a little bigger than previous Note’s pen. Note taking has never been easier with the new stylus; bring out the pen and the S Note runs, no matter which window you are on. The Air View feature can display a preview of window, by nearing the pen to display. With this feature, you can see contents of your Emails on a small window. There available also a button on the stylus with interesting functions. For example you can cut part of the current screen and take it to note taking applications. read more about S Pen: Samsung S Pen Features
