Every so often mobile phone’s manufacturers develop a device that is resistant to moisture and dust. These phones are usually protected by a layer of plastic against water and dust. Recently, Samsung which produces wide range of mobile devices for every taste, introduced a new version of Galaxy S4 which is resistant to humidity and dust. The phone, called Galaxy S4 Active will soon be shipped to markets. In this article we are going to get more familiar with this phone.

In the overall design of this phone, Samsung tried to use the same original Galaxy style. However, as this phone should be resistant against dust and water penetration, there have been some changes especially in the back of the phone. Connection with the PC port (micro USB) is protected by a cover. In addition, the battery cover is surrounded by a plastic rubber, which protects the device against dust and water. The device thickness increased from the 7.9 in original version to 9.1 mm which seems natural. Moreover, the handset weight rose from 130 grams in original to 153 in the active one. The front part of the phone is no longer containing that big home button and in opposite, there are three physical buttons. Samsung focuses more on athletes for this handset, but unfortunately according to its dimensions, it's a bit hard to get it on the hand. The handset can tolerate the water pressure up to one meter in depth, but Samsung put a maximum of 30 minutes timeframe limit.

In the hardware, except the LCD which degraded to TFT LCD, oth er characteristics such as size, resolution and others didn’t change and remained same. The processor which is equipped with this device is Snapdragon 600 with the frequency of 1.9 GHz. Like the original version, you can see the Adreno 320 as the GPU unit and 2 GB of running memory (RAM). Samsung used the accelerometer, proximity, barometer, gyroscope, compass and navigation sensors on this phone too. Though, as this device is intended for sport usage, it was better that Samsung add the thermometer and psychomotor, which were used in the original S4, in this version too. The camera in this handheld is 8 megapixels and can record FULL-HD videos in 30 fps.

The software platform of this handset is Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 which equipped with the famous Samsung TouchWiz. All the special features of the Galaxy S4m such as Smart stay, Smart pause, Smart scroll, S-Voice and Air gestures exist in this phone too. Thus, there isn’t much of difference with its parent.
