Microsoft has released MS Remote Desktop app for both Android and iOS (and not for Windows Phone) to let you have remote access to your Windows PC or Laptop. To setup the Remote Desktop Connection you need to have the following requirements:

  • Download and install Microsoft Remote Desktop on your Android device
  • Your laptop or PC must run one of the following versions of Windows: Windows 8 Enterprise, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows XP Professional (Windows Starter and Home editions are not supported)
  • Both your Android device and your Windows desktop are connected to the internet
  • Find out about the IP Address of your Windows PC (To find the IP Address of your Device, check the following screen shot)

Now, do the following steps and enjoy controlling your Window PC from almost anywhere:

1. On your Windows PC (or Laptop), open Start Menu, right click on Computer, and then click on Properties to open System. (You may also open System, by opening Control Panel and then double clicking on System)

2. On the left menu bar, click Remote Settings to open System Properties

3. Now, under Remote Desktop, mark this option: Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (The menu in the Windows 8 varies a li ttle)

4. You are done with the PC and now open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on your Android device

5. Tap the Plus icon on the top menu to add a new connection

6. Fill the required fields. Connection Name is optional but PC Name is the Host name or IP address of the Windows desktop you want to connect remotely

7. Complete the process and hit Done.

8. Now the connection has been created and you just need to tap the connection name to start the remote desktop connection (You may be asked to enter the user name/password)
