How to Restrict Background Mobile Data on Android for Specific Apps

If you have a limited mobile data plan and worried about some apps using data in the background, then do as follows to restrict background mobile data on Android devices for specific applications:

 

1. Open Settings application
2. Under the Wireless & Networks settings, tap to open the Data Usage option (on some devices, you may need to first tap the More option)
3. Now, make sure you are on the Mobile tab
4. Scroll down and from the list of applications which have recently had access to the mobile data, tap the application you want to restrict access to the internet in the background
5. Make sure to mark the Restrict background data option

 

** Note that you don't need to root your device to restrict background mobile data on Android
