After about 1 year the updated version of Samsung’s 10 inches tablet, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014, was introduced at IFA 2013. Note 10.1 2 has some improvements in the display, processing power, Wi-Fi, design and battery.
Design
The new Galaxy Note 10.1 is a scaled up copy of Galaxy Note 3. Compared to the prior Note 10.1, this one is optimized in weight and thickness. The weight is reduced from 597 to 537 grams and the thickness from 8.9 to 7.9 cm. The leather like back cover of the tablet remembers us of the Note 3 back cover which like usual, is made up of plastic. Like other Samsung smart devices, the three navigational buttons are placed at the bottom of the tablet: Back, Home and Menu key.
Hardware
The processing unit is introduced in three models, just like Note 3. The first one Snapdragon 800 quad core with 2.3 GH of frequency equipped with Adreno 330, the next one, also Samsung’s special one, Exynos 5 Octa and 1.9 GH of frequency (Cortex-A15) and the last processor type a quad core 1.3 GH of frequency (Cortex-A7). The 3 GB of RAM is enough RAM memory for the new Note 10.1 to win over the competitors.
The display chosen for this tablet is a Super Clear LCD with a size of 10.1” and like Nexus 10, a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels resulting in an interesting pixel density of 299 PPI which is the second Android tablet after the Google Nexus 7 2, considering the pixel density.
The camera for Note 10.1 2014 is upgraded from 5MP to 8 MP. It is accompanied with the following features: LED flash, auto focus, @60fps full HD video recording and the secondary front camera of 2.0MP.
Software
The Android version installed on this tablet is 4.3, clothed with Samsung Touchwiz graphical UI. From the list of features included with the tablet, besides the Air Gesture, Smart Stay and features introduced with Galaxy S4, the followings are the most eye catching ones:
Air Command: A special menu designed for the S Pen. Replace the S Pen from its place or press the button on the pen to open this menu. It is in fact a S Pen helper menu with following items: Action Memo, Screen Write, Scrapbook, S Finder, Pen Window & etc.
Multi Windows: Upgraded in the new version, it is now possible to move contents from one window to another.
