Home Screen is your dashboard, where you have access to your favorite apps, widgets to get important data at a glance and, some shortcuts and toggle buttons to do stuff quicker. To customize home screen on LG G5, you have several options to choose from. Wallpapers, home screen widgets, Smart Bulletin, Apps’ shortcuts are some of the things you can change and customize on the home screen of your LG G5.

So, let’s continue reading to learn a few things about how to make your G5’s home screen the way you like and save some time by adding some widgets and shortcuts to your home screen.

Note that, since you have the option to add or remove the App Drawer, we have tried to cover both layouts.

 

01. Decide whether you want the App Drawer on not?

By default, all your apps and widgets are in the home screen together. If you are happy with this design, then you don’t need to do anything. But if you find this design to be cluttered and confusing, follow this path to bring back the App Drawer and let the home screens be the home of widgets and shortcuts.

Follow this path: Settings >> Display >> Home Screen >> Select Home >> Home & App Drawer

 

02. Change the Wallpaper (Use a 360-Degree Wallpaper)

Some people prefer to use a personal photo as a wallpaper, and some other prefer something more general; a landscape, or some art work. To change wallpapers on LG G5 and set a new wallpaper, do as follows:

Step1: Open the Settings and go to the Display tab

Step2: Under the Home & Lock settings, touch to open the Home Screen settings

Step3: Now, under the Screen settings, touch to open the Wallpaper settings

Step4: There are 4 options to choose from: Gallery, Live wallpaper, Wallpaper gallery, and Photos (Google Photos)

Step5: To set a picture from the Gallery as wallpaper, touch the Gallery option, browse through your folders and finally touch the picture you want to set as wallpaper. Crop the image and then decide whether you want the wallpaper to move as you move between home screen pages.

Step6: To set a live wallpaper as wallpaper, touch the Live Wallpapers option, select your desired live wallpaper form the list (Tap the Add button to download more live wallpapers), Hit the Edit button to specify the status of 360 perspective, gesture scroll, and auto scroll features, and hit the Apply button.

Note that, if you are using the launcher with app drawer, to open the Wallpaper menu you just need to press and hold your finger on an empty place in the home screen and then go to the Wallpaper tab.

03. How to Turn Off and Disable Smart Bulletin?

Smart Bulletin is the place where you can find some of your device’s features including the Today’s Schedule, LG Health, Quick Remote, Music Player and Smart Settings, all in one place. Smart Bulletin is place at the very left side of your home screen and you need to swipe right to access it. If you don’t feel the need to have Smart Bulletin on your home screen, simply do as follows:

Step1: Keep Swiping to the right, until you see the Smart Bulletin screen

Step2: Hit the Gear icon on the top right of the screen to open the Smart Bulletin Settings

Step3: Now, simply use the slider button on the top to turn off and disable Smart Bulletin on LG G5

Note that, you also get to rearrange add/remove categories to be shown.

04. How to Add Widgets to home screen?

Home screen widgets provide an easy and quick access to the services and information you need: from live scores and latest news, to google search and toggle system settings. To add a widget to the home screen on your LG G5, do as follows:

Step1: Tap and hold your finger on an empty place in the home screen

Step2: Touch the Widgets option from the list in the bottom to view available home screen widgets

Step3: After finding the widget to be placed on the home screen, touch and hold the widget and drag it to the home screen.

05. How to resize a widget on home screen?

Some home screen widgets have the option to be resized. To resize a widget on home screen, do these easy steps:

Step1: Tap and hold your finger on the widget to be resized

Step2: Release your finger as soon as the widget starts jiggling, which means it is ready to be move, deleted or resized.

Step3: Now, if the widget supports resi zing, you should be able to touch the edges and move it in or out

 

06. How to remove a widget from home screen?

To delete a widget from home screen, simply do as follows:

Step1: Tap and hold your finger on the widget to be deleted

Step2: Wait for the widget to start moving, and then drag & drop it to the Remove button on the top of the screen.

Note that, if you want to uninstall an app, you have to uninstall the application associated with this widget. And if there is no app for a widget, you need to go to the Settings >> General >> Apps and uninstall it from there.


07. How to create a folder on home screen?

Regardless of using the App Drawer or not, you can create folders on the home screen and categorize applications in different folders. To create folder on home screen, simply drag and drop an app’s icon to another icon. The result is a new folder with these two applications in it.

Note that, if you have enabled the app drawer, you can add the apps’ shortcuts in to a folder.

 

08. How to change the Grid Size on home screen?

The grid size can be only changed when you have disabled the app drawer and everything is on the home screen. To change grid size on LG G5, do as follows:

Step1: Open the Settings application and go to the Display tab

Step2: Open the Home Screen settings, under the Home & Lock settings

Step3: Scroll down to the Layout settings and touch the Grid option

Step4: Now select one of these options as the grid size on your G5: 4x4, 4x5, 5x5

09. How to change Screen Swipe Effect on home screen?

By default, when you swipe on the home screen, the pages just slide to the next pages. But this swipe effect can be easily changed by doing as follows:

Step1: Open the Settings application and go to the Display tab

Step2: Tap to open the Home Screen settings, under the Home & Lock settings

Step3: Under the Style settings, tap to open the Screen swipe effect option to open the available effects

Step4: Select a new swipe effect from this list: Slide, Breeze, Panorama, and Carousel.

Note that, if you have enabled the App Drawer, you can mark the Allow Home Screen Looping option to loop back from the last home screen to the first home screen.

 

10. How to set a specific screen as the default home screen?

When you select a screen as your default home screen, it means whenever your press the home button that default screen will appear.  To set the default home screen on LG G5, do as follows:

Step1: On the home screen, pinch to zoom in to open the home screen edit panel

Step2: Now, you should see all your home screen pages in the tile mode, with a Home icon on the top right side of each tile

Step3: Simply tap the Home icon to set that page as the default home screen

Note that, this customization feature is not available for those who have disabled their app drawer.

 

11. How to remove a whole page from the home screen?

Imagine you have added a new page to your home screen and filled it with some widgets and shortcuts. How would remove them all? Well, do as follows to remove a page from the home screen:

Step1: Step1: On the home screen, pinch to zoom in to open the home screen edit panel

Step2: Now, on the tile mode, tap and hold your finger on the page you want to remove

Step3: Simply drag & drop it to the Remove button on the top.

Note that, this method is only functional when you are using both the app drawer and home screen. To remove a whole page when the app drawer is disabled, you need to remove every content in it and the page will be gone automatically.

To add a new page to the home screen, simply press the Add button while you are in the tile mode.

 

12. How to change Themes on LG G5?

And last but not the least, is about changing the entire theme on your G5 which will affect the home screen too. To change theme on LG G5, do as follows:

Step1: Open the Settings application

Step2: Go to the Display tab and open the Home Screen settings under the Home & Lock settings

Step3: Touch to open the Theme option under the Screen settings

Step4: Now, simply select a new theme for your G5. Tap the Download button to get access to many themes on the LG’s own store for free.
