This page explains how we choose apps and software and how we put our reviews together, so you know what each review is based on.
What we cover
- Apps: available on Google Play or the Apple App Store, with a store rating of 4 stars or higher. We skip apps with low ratings or too few reviews to judge.
- Software for businesses (SaaS): products with a public website and a public pricing page. They don’t need a mobile app, and store ratings don’t decide whether we cover them.
- We focus on good products that don’t get much attention, rather than the ones everyone already uses.
Where the information comes from
- The store listing: for apps, features, price, in-app purchases, requirements and privacy details come from the app’s official listing.
- The vendor’s website: for software, features, plans, prices and policies come from the vendor’s own pages, and we say so in the review.
- User reviews: pros, cons and common problems are drawn from what users report in the app stores, with recent reviews weighted most. We look for points that come up repeatedly, not one-off comments. In software reviews, these describe the product’s mobile apps.
- Developer replies: where developers answer reviews, we use those replies to explain fixes and settings.
What we don’t claim
We haven’t tested the apps or software ourselves. Each review says how it was put together and when the information was checked. Apps and software change often, so check the store listing or the vendor’s website for the latest version, price and features.
Images
App icons, logos and screenshots come from the store listing or the vendor’s website and belong to their owners. We link to the source in every review.
Corrections
If something in a review is wrong or out of date, let us know and we’ll check it and update the review.
