Zoho Invoice review: free web invoicing software

Zoho Invoice is free invoicing software for small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs. You send invoices and quotes, take card and ACH payments online, and track expenses and project hours. There are no paid plans: the pricing page lists one free tier, capped at 2 users, 3 projects and 500 invoices a year.

Quick verdict

If you send fewer than 500 invoices a year and work alone or with one other person, Zoho Invoice costs nothing and covers quotes, recurring invoices, payment reminders, a customer portal and time tracking. The limits are the catch. You get 2 users and 3 projects, invoices include “Powered by Zoho Invoice” branding, and the pricing page points growing businesses that need more to Zoho Billing. The iPhone app has 4.9 stars from 14,898 ratings. Many of its reviewers call it easy to use and are glad it’s free; the most common complaints are bugs, such as invoices that won’t send or disappear.

Features

These come from the home and pricing pages on zoho.com/invoice and from the iPhone app’s App Store listing.

  • Invoices: tax-compliant invoices, sent by email, as a link, or as a PDF over WhatsApp or iMessage. You can add your logo and change the template. The App Store listing says there are over 18 templates and you can change tables, fonts, colors and fields.
  • Quotes: once a customer approves a quote, it can turn into an invoice automatically.
  • Recurring invoices and reminders: recurring invoices are listed, and Zoho Invoice sends automatic reminders for overdue payments.
  • Getting paid: the pricing page names cards, e-wallets and ACH. The iPhone listing says invoices are marked paid automatically when a customer pays through a connected payment gateway.
  • Customer portal: customers log in to view credits, approve quotes, pay invoices and download statements.
  • Time and expenses: staff log hours from their own devices, and Zoho Invoice works out what the customer owes. You can record billable expenses, such as fuel or raw materials, and turn them into invoices.
  • Reports: a dashboard, plus reports on best-selling products, AR aging and top customers.
  • Spain: the home page says Zoho Invoice is VERI*FACTU compliant in Spain.
  • Support: the pricing page promises free email and voice support 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Plans and pricing

Plan Price Main additions
Free $0 Every feature above, with up to 2 users, 3 projects, 500 invoices a year and two organizations per account. Invoices include “Powered by Zoho Invoice” branding.
Zoho Billing Not on the Zoho Invoice pricing page The pricing page points you to Zoho Billing, a separate product, if you want “an advanced solution” for a growing business.

The pricing page says Zoho Invoice is free for small business owners, freelancers and entrepreneurs, and the iPhone listing says it has no hidden paid plans and has been free since 2021. Watch the inactivity rule. If you don’t use the account for more than 180 days, your data is deleted within the next 20 days. Zoho says it sends a notice first, and logging in or backing up keeps your data. One iPhone reviewer, in February 2026, says they were charged even though the app said it was free.

Mobile apps

The iPhone app, Zoho Invoice Maker App, is version 5.3.1, updated October 13, 2026, and needs iOS 16.0 or later. It is free and first came out on January 8, 2011. Its App Store listing covers quotes, invoices, payment reminders, time tracking, expenses, the customer portal and reports, plus some iPhone-only extras: a home screen widget, Face ID or Touch ID lock, AirPrint, iCloud file storage, a document scanner, business card scanning and customer addresses on a map.

On Android, the Google Play data we collected is for Invoice Generator – Zoho, not the full Zoho Invoice app. Its listing describes three steps: add your business details, add customer and product details, then email the invoice or download it as a PDF to share over WhatsApp. It is free with no ads, has 1,000,000+ downloads, and is version 4.5.17, updated October 13, 2026. In replies from 2021 and 2022, the developer calls it “a simple and static tool” and points people who want saved invoices, discounts or a logo to the Zoho Invoice app, which isn’t in our data. Later replies (2023 and 2024) say that signing up lets you save invoices, customers and items and add a logo. Several Android reviewers ask for a discount field.

Pros (from app reviews)

These themes come from reviews of the iPhone app. Invoice Generator reviews aren’t counted.

  • Easy to use: many reviewers call it simple or easy, including one who says they aren’t tech-savvy. A few others found it hard at first; one in May 2025 says it took a week to learn.
  • Free: many reviewers are glad it costs nothing. Two say it never pushes them to upgrade. One doesn’t mind the small watermark in return.
  • Long-term use: several have used it for years, one since 2016 and another for eight years.
  • Switching from other tools: several moved from QuickBooks, Quicken, Jobber, Wave or Invoice Quick. A solo operator in June 2026 says it has almost as many features as Jobber without the “45 plus a month” subscription.
  • Getting paid: several mention payments: partial payments and credits, plus card, ACH and check processing. One reviewer in October 2025 couldn’t connect Square or find an ACH option.
  • Quotes and expenses: a few use it for quotes, and one says turning a quote into an invoice is “super simple”. A few track expenses in it, including a trucking company owner.
  • Working on site: a few invoice from the field. One says the app is “simpler, easier, and quicker than the zoho website.”
  • Support: a few praise the support staff. Two others say support is slow or hard to reach, and one of them says email is the only way to contact them.

Cons (from app reviews)

  • Bugs: several report problems. In April 2026 one says invoices only save as drafts and never send, and another says changes don’t show until you reopen the app. Others say invoices disappear, the app freezes after an update, or the reports tab won’t open.
  • Redesigns and updates: two dislike changes to the layout. A reviewer of almost two years says the latest redesign hid menus behind extra buttons, and the other is tired of the app “moving stuff around”. A third says a forced update locked them out until they could install it.
  • Sign-up and account trouble: a few couldn’t create an account (one blames the CAPTCHA), were told their account wasn’t active, or didn’t want the app to use their Apple profile details and default email.
  • Template limits: a few want more control over invoice layouts; one of them, in January 2026, says you can’t customize templates at all. A few others praise the custom fields and branding options.
  • Reports: two find them too thin, such as no daily or weekly income figures.
  • Email delivery: two say invoices land in customers’ junk folders.
  • Smaller requests: two want receipt scanning for expenses and two want an easier way to mark invoices paid. One each asks for more than 3 photos per invoice, texting invoices, line-item dates and a January to December year. One says you pick one currency at the start and can’t invoice in another.

Rating breakdown

The data we collected doesn’t include a star breakdown for the iPhone app. These star counts belong to Invoice Generator – Zoho, the separate Android app, so don’t read them as a rating of Zoho Invoice.

Stars Ratings Share
5 34,138 89.9%
4 3,158 8.3%
3 385 1.0%
2 29 0.1%
1 267 0.7%

The breakdown covers 37,977 ratings; the listing shows 37,985 in total. One and two star ratings make up 0.8%.

Privacy and security

The pricing page says Zoho Invoice shows no ads and doesn’t sell your information. It lists PCI-DSS compliance, 256-bit SSL encryption, two-factor authentication and regular intrusion and virus scanning; these are the vendor’s claims, and we didn’t check them. On iPhone, the listing says you can lock the app with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. We couldn’t read the store privacy labels for either app. On Android, Invoice Generator asks for account access, full network access and storage access, among other permissions.

Who it’s for

Zoho Invoice fits you if you’re a freelancer or small business that sends fewer than 500 invoices a year, has one or two people billing, and wants quotes, payments, reminders and time tracking without a subscription. On iPhone, the App Store listing covers the main web features and adds scanning and a widget. Skip it if you need more than 2 users or 3 projects, want invoices without Zoho branding, or might leave the account unused for six months, since inactive data is deleted. On Android, check that you’re installing the full Zoho Invoice app and not Invoice Generator.
