Outline Icons - Icon Pack Android app review

Outline Icons is a $2.49 Android icon pack that redraws your app icons as thin, colorful outlines, with more than 14,200 icons and no ads. It needs a launcher that supports icon packs (or Samsung’s Theme Park app), and it has 4.7 stars from 2,151 ratings on Google Play.

Quick verdict

If you use a dark wallpaper and a launcher that takes icon packs, Outline Icons is an easy pick. Many reviewers praise the design, several praise how many icons it has, and several have used it for years. The most common complaint in the sample comes from people who bought it without such a launcher and couldn’t apply it. Several reviewers also waited months for requested icons, and a few say the app stopped working after an update between March and May 2026. Keep your wallpaper dark. Several reviewers say the thin lines are hard to see on light or busy ones. Across all ratings, 3.8% are 1 or 2 stars.

What is Outline Icons?

Outline Icons swaps your app icons for hand-drawn outline versions in bright colors. The listing says each icon is made at 192 x 192 pixels (xxxhdpi) and that the style looks best on dark or blurred wallpapers, which it calls OLED friendly. The app itself is a dashboard where you apply the pack, search and preview icons, send icon requests and pick wallpapers. RandomVector has published it on Google Play since August 2017.

Key features

  • Icons: 14,200+ hand-made HD icons, icon masking for apps the pack doesn’t cover, and system icons in alternate colors.

  • Dynamic calendar: support for Google, Samsung, Today, Business, aCalendar and the system calendar.
  • Wallpapers: 26 high-resolution, royalty-free wallpapers.

  • Nova setup tip: the listing says to go to Nova Settings > Look & Feel > Icon Style, check Autogen and turn Reshape legacy off.

Outline Icons vs. what a launcher app should have

“Listed” means the Google Play listing names the feature, “Partial” means it covers part of it, and “Reviews only” or “Reviews and developer replies” means we found it outside the listing. Outline Icons is an icon pack that runs inside your launcher, so most launcher rows are your launcher’s job; it fills the icon and wallpaper rows.

Common problems and fixes

The sample goes back to 2018. Older problems may be fixed, and the developer’s replies below may be out of date.

Problem What reviewers report When What the developer’s replies suggest
Can’t apply the icons on the phone’s own launcher Many reviewers bought it and found their launcher didn’t support it, on Samsung, Pixel, Moto, Honor and Huawei phones among others 2018 to 2026 On Samsung, use the Theme Park app from the Galaxy Store (2022 to 2025); on OnePlus, Home Settings > Icon pack (2021); in Microsoft Launcher, Launcher Settings > Homescreen > Icon Appearance > Icon Pack (2021)
Only part of the pack shows on a stock launcher Two reviewers: one on ColorOS (March 2026), one on the OnePlus launcher who saw about 240 icons (May 2024) 2024 to 2026 ColorOS limits how icon packs show icons; Smart Launcher or Niagara work (April 2026). The OnePlus limit dates from Android 13/OxygenOS 13 and has no workaround, so use a launcher like Nova (May 2024)
App crashes or stops working after an update A few reviewers, one of whom says it still crashed after a reinstall March to May 2026 No reply in the sample. The newest reviews, from June to October 2026, don’t mention crashes; one in October 2026 says only “not working”
Hard to find one icon when changing a single app’s icon A few reviewers, two of them on Microsoft Launcher April 2025 to October 2026 Search in the picker is missing in Microsoft Launcher itself; Nova and most other launchers have it (April 2025)
Icons change or go back to the default on their own A few reviewers, one on OxygenOS 12 2022 to December 2025 For OxygenOS 12, go to Settings > Personalisation > Icon Packs, pick the default icons, then pick Outline Icons again (May 2022)
Search returns nothing or loading is slow Two reviewers March and July 2023 Search was fixed in a later version, and update 3.32 improves loading speed (July 2023)

Pros (from user reviews)

  • The look: many reviewers call the icons beautiful, clean or cool. One in August 2025 says “A real artist made these.”
  • Coverage: several reviewers praise the size of the pack and how much it covers, and a few say it has most or all of their apps. Two were surprised to find uncommon ones. Several others still found apps missing.
  • Made for dark wallpapers: several reviewers say the colors pop on a black or dark background, especially on AMOLED screens.
  • Still updated: several reviewers say new icons keep coming, and one in May 2025 says updates are usually monthly. The pack has long-time users too: several reviewers have had it for years, one since around 2018.
  • The developer: a few reviewers call the developer attentive and quick to reply, and a few say their requests were filled fast. One in January 2026 says icons requested the day before were already in.
  • Samsung phones: one reviewer in January 2026 uses it with Samsung Theme Park and says it looks great.

Cons (from user reviews)

  • Needs a supported launcher: many reviewers in the sample bought it and then found it didn’t work with their phone’s launcher. The listing says a supported launcher is required, and the developer’s replies point Samsung owners to Theme Park.
  • Slow icon requests: several reviewers waited months or years for requested icons, including one in August 2026 who requested in 2022. A few say a free request can’t be upgraded to premium later.
  • Request prices: a few reviewers think premium requests cost too much.
  • Light backgrounds: several reviewers say the icons are hard to see on light or busy wallpapers, and a few find the lines too thin.
  • Recent breakage: a few reviewers between March and May 2026 say the app stopped working after an update.
  • Circles: a few reviewers dislike that some icons sit inside a circle and others don’t.
  • Refunds: a few reviewers couldn’t get a refund. One in 2021 says the developer got back quickly with one.

Across all ratings, 3.8% are 1 or 2 stars and 88.4% are 5-star.

Pricing

Outline Icons costs $2.49 once, with no ads. In-app purchases run from $1.09 to $27.99 per item. The listing offers premium icon requests and says donations go through in-app purchases. Free requests are filled by demand, the developer’s replies say, with the most popular apps added in each update (2022 and 2025), and every buyer gets every new icon. A premium request puts your icons in the next update, and a 2026 reply says premium requests are sent by email. A 2020 reply says donations are voluntary and don’t change what you get.

Privacy and permissions

We couldn’t read the Google Play data safety section, so we make no claim about what it declares. The permissions list includes Google Play license check, full network access, modify or delete the contents of your USB storage, modify system settings, prevent device from sleeping, read the contents of your USB storage, run at startup, set an alarm, set wallpaper, view Wi-Fi connections and view network connections. The listing doesn’t explain them. Two reviewers say the pack was flagged as a virus or malware, one of them by Avast. The developer’s replies call it a false positive and say Avast stopped flagging it in 2022.

Who it’s for

Outline Icons suits you if you run Nova, Niagara, Smart Launcher or another supported launcher, or a Samsung phone with Theme Park, and you keep a dark wallpaper. It also suits you if you want one consistent outline style across a lot of apps, since coverage is the most praised point after the design. Skip it if your phone’s own launcher doesn’t take icon packs and you don’t want to switch, if you use light or bright wallpapers, or if you need icons for niche apps soon and don’t want to pay for premium requests.

FAQ

Does Outline Icons work on Samsung phones?

Yes, through Samsung’s Theme Park app. The listing says One UI 4.0 or newer can use Theme Park from the Galaxy Store to apply the pack without another launcher. In Theme Park, tap Icon, then Create New, then the blue Iconpack button, and choose Outline Icons; the listing says to repeat this after each pack update.

Do I have to pay for icon requests?

No. Every user can request icons for free, the developer’s replies say, and the most requested apps are added in each update. Premium requests cost extra and put your icons in the next update. A few reviewers waited months for free requests.

Why are the icons hard to see on my wallpaper?

The pack is designed for dark or blurred backgrounds, the listing says. Several reviewers say the thin colored lines get lost on light or busy wallpapers. A 2019 developer reply also recommends a dark or blurred background.

Why can’t I search for an icon in Microsoft Launcher?

The developer’s replies from 2024 and 2025 say the missing search box is a Microsoft Launcher limit, not the pack’s. Nova and most other launchers let you search when you change an app’s icon. Inside the Outline Icons app itself, the listing says you can search and preview icons.
