How we chose
Every app on this list has its own review on this site, and only apps we’ve reviewed can appear here. To be reviewed, an Android app had to have a Google Play rating of at least 4.0 from at least 500 ratings, an update within the past year, and a download figure between 10,000+ and 1,000,000+, so the most downloaded apps are left out. No more than 15% of its ratings could be 1 or 2 stars. We skipped apps that ask for sensitive permissions such as SMS, call log, contacts, recording audio, accessibility or device admin, and we cover one app per developer. We haven’t tested these apps ourselves; the picks come from store listings and user reviews.
1. Rainbow Weather: best for short-range rain forecasts and rain radar
Rainbow Weather is built around rain. The listing describes high-resolution rain radar, minute-by-minute rain forecasts for the next 2 hours, and forecasts for areas as small as 1 square km, plus conditions up to 24 hours ahead, rain alarms, a hurricane tracker and home-screen widgets. Many reviewers praise the design, and several say the forecasts are accurate, with a few singling out rain or snow forecasts. It is free to download, with in-app purchases listed from $1.99 to $99.99 per item, and Google Play lists no ads.
Drawback: the biggest complaint is money. Many reviewers complain about paying, mostly in 2024, and several again in 2026, and several say the app asked for payment or card details before they could try it. The developer’s 2024 replies say the payment window can be closed to use the free version. Several reviewers also say forecasts were wrong for them.

2. Meteomatics Weather App: best for a free, ad-free weather forecast
Meteomatics Weather App is free, with no in-app purchases listed and no ads, and the listing says it is “Completely free and without any ads.” Many reviewers praise the app for having no ads, and many call it clean, simple, uncluttered or easy to use. The listing describes 7-day forecasts, a precipitation radar and nowcast for the next 2 hours, precipitation, temperature and wind maps for the entire globe, and data from more than 110 models and data sources, including ECMWF, GFS and DWD-ICON.
Drawback: the most common complaints are about widgets. Several reviewers, from 2025 to 2026, say widgets got stuck loading, didn’t refresh, or stopped working after an update, and several want more widget options. The listing doesn’t mention widgets or weather alerts.

3. MyRadar Weather Radar Pro: best for animated radar on your phone and Wear OS watch
MyRadar Weather Radar Pro is the paid version of MyRadar. The listing calls it “the ad-free version” and describes animated weather radar around your current location, with pinch and zoom around the United States, so you can tell if rain is headed toward or away from you, and how fast. It says the app is available for Wear OS, with tiles for radar and current weather, and a few reviewers like the app on their watch. Several reviewers call the app or its radar accurate, and several say they have used MyRadar for years. It costs $5.99, with in-app purchases listed from $2.99 to $59.99 per item, and the listing names hurricane tracking and a professional radar pack as in-app purchases.
Drawback: from 2023 to 2026, several reviewers say features they had already paid for, such as hurricane data or local radar, now need a subscription or another payment. Several reviewers in 2025 and 2026 also complain about repeated pop-ups, sales prompts or requests to invest in the company.

How we put this roundup together
We haven’t tested these apps ourselves. This roundup is built from the 3 reviews on this site, which draw on each app’s Google Play listing, public rating breakdown and user reviews: 156 user reviews for Rainbow Weather, 105 for Meteomatics Weather App and 224 for MyRadar Weather Radar Pro. Each “best for” label describes what an app’s listing and reviewers point to, not a ranking from our own use, and each drawback comes from the cons in that app’s review.
