Today Weather, listed on Google Play as “Today Weather:Data by NOAA/NWS”, is a free Android weather app from todayweather.co that lets you choose where your forecast comes from.
Quick verdict
Today Weather suits you if you want to pick your own weather source, such as the U.S. National Weather Service or the national weather service in your own country, and want home-screen widgets you can customize. Several reviewers praise the choice of sources, the widgets, the look and how customizable it is, and several call it accurate. The main complaints in our sample are widgets that don’t refresh on their own, forecasts that were wrong for the reviewer, radar problems, and crashes on startup in early October 2026. For the crashes, the developer’s replies point to a new version. The free version shows ads, and the developer’s replies say Premium removes them and adds a few extra data sources. Accuracy depends on the source you choose and where you live. Don’t rely on a single app for severe weather warnings.

Today Weather vs. what a weather app should have
The Status column shows where we found each feature. “Listed” means the Google Play listing names it. “Reviews only” or “Reviews and developer replies” means the listing doesn’t mention it but reviewers or the developer’s replies do, so treat it as unconfirmed. “Not listed” means we found it in neither, which doesn’t prove the app lacks it.

Which provider should you use?
It depends on where you live. The listing offers separate national sources for many countries. In our sample, several of the developer’s replies to accuracy complaints suggest switching the weather provider in Settings to see which matches your area better. Other replies comment on specific sources and data; each is dated, and things may have changed since.
| Source or data | What the developer’s replies say | Reply date |
|---|---|---|
| NOAA/NWS radar (U.S.) | U.S. users can switch to NOAA/NWS radar data in the app’s settings. An earlier reply says this radar comes from NOAA via WMS and is built on the NEXRAD platform. | June 8, 2025. The NEXRAD reply is dated April 12, 2025, earlier than the review it sits on. |
| RainViewer radar | RainViewer only supports current and past radar, and forecast radar is no longer available, which can cause a “Network Unavailable” message. The reply suggests switching to another radar source. | February 5, 2026 |
| Precipitation amounts | Rain amounts depend on the data source. The reply suggests sources such as AccuWeather, Open Weather Maps and Open-Meteo. The reviewer says OpenWeatherMap was the only source they found with it. | September 17, 2025, dated earlier than the edited review it sits on. |
| Wind speed units | Some providers return wind speed in mph by default. | February 25, 2026 |
| Rain alerts | Rain alerts depend on the selected data source and location. | May 3, 2026 |
| Current conditions | No source is 100% accurate in all regions, and current conditions may be delayed by 5 to 15 minutes. | May 26, 2025 |
| Premium sources | Premium adds access to a few extra data sources. One reviewer says they subscribed for more sources and got nothing added. | August 19, 2025 |
Switching isn’t always enough: a few reviewers say forecasts were still wrong after trying other sources, and one says forecasts with the Met Office as the source never match the Met Office’s own app.
Common problems and fixes
These fixes come from the developer’s replies to reviews in our sample. Menu names may differ in your version, and some reviewers say the suggested steps didn’t help them.
| Problem | Developer’s suggested fix |
|---|---|
| App crashes on startup (early October 2026) | Replies dated October 5, 2026 say a new version was released and to update through Google Play. A reply dated October 13, 2026 says that if it happens again, open Google Play, go to Android System WebView and uninstall updates (if that option is available), then open Today Weather again. |
| Widgets don’t refresh on their own | Go to Today Weather > Settings > Troubleshooting and follow the steps, since battery and background limits may affect widgets, then restart the device if needed (August 29, 2026). Several reviewers say they had already allowed permissions or followed these steps. |
| Widget shows the wrong days | Run the steps in Settings > Troubleshooting, change the widget update frequency to another value and back, then reboot (August 13, 2026). |
| Temperature missing from the status bar | In Settings > Notifications, turn off “Hide silent notifications from status bar” (December 16, 2025). |
| Forecast doesn’t match your weather | Switch the weather provider in Settings (for example, September 9, 2026; one reply dated December 26, 2025 names Settings > Weather data source). |
| Radar shows “Network Unavailable” | Switch to another radar source until an update arrives (February 5, 2026). |
| Radar won’t zoom in far (August 2026) | Update the app: a new version fixes the radar zoom and timeframe issues (August 28, 2026). |
| Premium not recognized on a new phone | Remove the other Google accounts, uninstall Today Weather, reinstall with the account used to buy Premium, then add the other accounts back (March 5, 2026). The reviewer says this still didn’t work. |
| Can’t add another location | Tap the search icon, type the location name, tap the result and use the Save button (May 14, 2025). |
| Widget clock won’t show 24-hour time | Check Today Weather > Settings > Units > Time format, and make sure automatic date, time and timezone are on (October 2, 2026). |
Whatever weather app you use, don’t rely on one app alone for severe weather warnings. Check official alerts from your national weather service too.
Pros (from user reviews)
- Choice of weather sources: several reviewers like being able to choose their data source, and a few mention a national or government source, such as Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology or the U.S. National Weather Service.
- Widgets: several reviewers praise the widgets, their variety or their look, and a few single out how customizable they are. One says the widgets are the reason they haven’t switched to another app. Widgets also draw the most complaints; see Cons.
- Accuracy: several reviewers call the app or its forecasts accurate, and one says it is possibly more accurate than Google Weather. Two put a number on it: 95% and 85%. Against that, several reviewers say forecasts were wrong for them (see Cons).
- Customization: the app is customizable or configurable, several reviewers say, including one who calls it the most feature-rich and customizable weather app ever.
- Design and ease of use: the graphics, colors or layout get praise from several reviewers, and several call it easy to use, navigate or read. Two disagree about the look: one calls it dated, and one says they don’t like how it looks.
- Long-time use: several reviewers say they’ve used it for years, one for 8 years and one for 6.
- Free version and ads: a few reviewers praise it as free or say the free version gives a lot. Two describe the ads as non-invasive or infrequent.

- Air quality and pollen: two reviewers like the air quality numbers or the pollen count.
Cons (from user reviews)
- Widgets don’t refresh: several reviewers say widgets don’t update on their own, from June 2025 to September 2026, and a few say they only refresh after opening or tapping into the app. Several of them say they had already granted permissions or followed the troubleshooting steps. The developer’s replies point to Settings > Troubleshooting and battery or background restrictions.
- Other widget issues: layout is the next gripe, with several reviewers asking for more control over things such as sizes, padding, bolder fonts or transparency. A few report widgets that won’t add, get stuck, show “Loading” or broke after an update, and two say text is cut off or not centered.
- Wrong forecasts: several reviewers say forecasts or current conditions were wrong for them. Among them, several saw rain forecast under a clear sky, or rain and snow that the app didn’t show, and a few say the temperature was off. The developer’s replies to several of these suggest switching the weather provider, and a few reviewers say they had already tried other sources.
- Radar: several reviewers call the radar poor, unreliable or in need of improvement. A few say the radar wouldn’t zoom in far enough, mostly in late August 2026, and a developer reply dated August 28, 2026 says a new version fixes the radar zoom. Two say they preferred the old radar screen. A few others praise the radar or the new maps.
- Crashes and loading: several reviewers report the app crashing on startup or not opening at all in early October 2026, and a few of them blame the latest update. One later says it works again. A few say the app doesn’t load anything, and a few say it is slow.
- Interface changes: a few reviewers, writing in May and June 2026, dislike that the menu moved from the right side to the left, including one who can no longer use the app one-handed. A developer reply says it was moved for consistency with other apps.
- Ads: a few reviewers complain about ads, including ads in the middle of the weather screen. The developer’s replies say the app uses native ads and no full-screen ads.
- Premium and support: a few reviewers report problems with Premium, such as a purchase that didn’t carry over to a new phone or being charged quarterly as well as yearly. A few say support didn’t respond or didn’t solve their problem.
- Watch and notification: a few reviewers say the watch app doesn’t work or shows a black screen, and a few say the ongoing notification stopped showing or updating.

|---|---|---|
| 5 | 77,465 | 74.0% |
| 4 | 20,111 | 19.2% |
| 3 | 3,529 | 3.4% |

Source: Google Play ratings histogram, checked October 17, 2026. Shares are of the 104,634 ratings in the breakdown; the listing shows 104,647 ratings in total. Shares are rounded, so they don’t add up to exactly 100%.
Most ratings are 5 stars, and 1- and 2-star ratings together are 3.4% of the breakdown. Our review sample deliberately includes extra 1-, 2- and 3-star reviews, so complaints take up far more of it than they do of the ratings as a whole.
Pricing
Today Weather is free on Google Play, with ads. The listing shows in-app purchases from $0.99 to $18.99 per item but doesn’t say what they are. A developer reply dated August 19, 2025 says the free and Premium versions show the same weather information, and that Premium removes ads and adds access to a few extra data sources. Reviewers mention lifetime and annual Premium purchases. Prices may differ by country and change over time, so check the store before you buy.
Privacy and permissions
We couldn’t read the Google Play data safety section for Today Weather, so we make no claim about what data it collects or shares. The permissions list includes precise location (GPS and network-based), approximate location (network-based), full network access, view network connections, run at startup, prevent device from sleeping and control vibration. One reviewer says they had to opt out of more than 100 interest groups.
Who it’s for
Today Weather fits you if you want to choose your forecast source, including national weather services in many countries, and like to customize widgets and the layout. You’ll need to put up with ads or pay to remove them. It’s a weaker fit if you need widgets that refresh reliably in the background, which several reviewers say they don’t, or if you mainly want an advanced radar. Accuracy depends on the source and region, so be ready to try a few sources. Keep a national weather service app for official warnings.

How this review was put together
We haven’t tested Today Weather ourselves. This review is built from the Google Play listing, the app’s public rating breakdown, the permissions list, the developer’s replies, and 219 user reviews dating from March 2025 to October 2026. We took the latest 100 reviews plus the latest 40 for each star level, newest first, and removed duplicates. Most of the sample is from 2026, the low-star reviews are overrepresented compared with the rating breakdown, and most reviews in our sample have a developer reply. Feature descriptions come from the store listing, and we checked the bigger claims against what reviewers report. Where reviewers disagreed, we’ve said so. Older reviews may describe earlier versions of the app. Information was checked October 17, 2026, and features, prices and ratings can change, so check the store listing for current details.
