Factorial review: HR, payroll and IT software for businesses

Factorial is HR software that puts employee records, time off, time tracking, payroll, expenses and company devices in one system, with an AI assistant called One on top. Pricing starts at $8 per user per month, but each company gets a tailored plan built from the modules it picks, so your final price comes from a quote. Every plan includes Factorial Core: the employee directory, onboarding and offboarding, payslip distribution and legal e-signatures.

Quick verdict

If your company wants HR, time tracking and expenses in one place instead of spreadsheets, Factorial covers a long list of modules, from shift planning and recruiting to device management. The pricing page gives only a starting price of $8 per user per month; you’ll need a quote for the modules you want. The mobile apps are what your employees will use most: Android has 4.6 stars from 40,807 ratings and iPhone 4.8 from 441. Most recent Android reviews are short positive notes. Several, though, report clock-in errors or hours recorded wrongly, so check that part before you run payroll on it.

Features

These come from the home and pricing pages on factorial.com.

  • Factorial Core (every plan): employee directory, onboarding and offboarding, payslip distribution, sending documents in bulk, legal e-signature, custom notifications and fillable PDFs.
  • Time: time off with unlimited policies and custom absence types; time tracking with geolocation, a QR clock-in system and overtime compensation; shift planning with automated, bulk and rotating shifts.
  • Talent: 360 performance reviews and competency tracking, recruiting with multi-job posting and AI CV parsing, engagement surveys with eNPS, and training with certificates and knowledge tests.
  • Finance: expenses with receipt reading (OCR) and multi-step approvals, project time and cost tracking, procurement with approval workflows, payroll, and Factorial Cards for company spending.
  • IT: SaaS license management, an IT inventory for ordering and assigning devices, multi-OS device management (MDM) with remote lock and wipe, and endpoint protection (EDR).
  • AI: One, an AI agent for each person that searches, analyzes data and creates reports using your company’s context. One customer quoted on the home page says the AI summarizes performance reviews.
  • Integrations: a marketplace of connections plus an open API for building your own.
  • Data: the home page calls Factorial a “Secure and EU-compliant system” and says your data is independently verified, certified and audited, without naming a certification. These are the vendor’s statements; we didn’t check them.

Plans and pricing

Plan Price Main additions

The pricing page says “Factorial starts at $8 per month, per user” and that a specialist designs a plan around your needs, so your business has to request a quote to get a real price. What the $8 covers isn’t stated, nor whether it’s billed monthly or yearly, or whether there’s a free trial; the FAQ on tax, payment options and cancelling wasn’t readable in our copy. You can book a free demo from the home page.

Mobile apps

Both apps are free. On Android, Factorial is version 26.10.3, updated October 21, 2026, with 500,000+ downloads and no ads. On iPhone it’s also version 26.10.3, updated October 20, 2026, and needs iOS 16.4 or later. Employees can clock in and assign time to projects and locations, request time off, see shifts, read company news, review and sign documents, submit expenses by photographing receipts, manage tasks, see who’s away, and update their profile and bank details. Managers can approve or reject time-off requests in the app.

Pros (from app reviews)

These come from Android reviews from the last two years. Several come from employees who clock in with it at work. The data has no written iPhone reviews.

  • Positive overall: most recent reviews are short positive notes such as “good” or “excellent”. Few give reasons. One calls it a “really convenient app”, and another says “does it job, i use it for work”.

Cons (from app reviews)

The reviews we read include more low ratings than the store as a whole, where 81.6% of ratings in the breakdown are 5 stars.

  • Clock-in and hours: several say clocking in or out fails, the clock stops partway through a shift, or hours are calculated wrongly. One, in December 2024, says a missed clock-out shows as minus 4 hours.
  • Bugs and speed: several call the app buggy or slow, or say it froze, stopped working or showed a grey screen after an expense upload.
  • Support: a few say support didn’t reply or was slow.
  • Rollout: one reviewer from a company that bought Factorial, in February 2025, says the sales process was unclear, onboarding was weak and support was slow after they moved their data from older software.

Rating breakdown

These are Android app ratings. The data we collected doesn’t include a star breakdown for the iPhone app.

Stars Ratings Share
5 32,916 81.6%
4 4,058 10.1%
3 1,578 3.9%
2 225 0.6%
1 1,578 3.9%

The breakdown covers 40,355 ratings; the listing shows 40,807 in total. One and two star ratings make up 4.5%.

Who it’s for

A good fit if:

  • You want HR, time tracking, expenses and payroll in one system and pay only for the modules you choose.
  • Your staff work shifts or on the move and need to clock in, request leave and submit expenses from their phones.
  • You want onboarding to cover laptops, software access and device security as well as paperwork, with HR and IT in one tool.
  • You employ people in Europe: the vendor says it knows rules from “severance pay in Spain to sick leave in Germany”.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You want a published price list or a free plan before talking to sales.
  • Your payroll depends on clock-in data from phones and you can’t test it first: several app reviewers report hours recorded wrongly.
